The Payment Deadline of Assessed Business Tax Postponed to Late February 2024 Due to Lunar New Year Holiday

National Taxation Bureau of the Southern Area, Ministry of Finance (hereinafter "the Bureau") announced that, in accordance with Article 40 of the Value-added and Non-value-added Business Tax Act, the original payment period of the assessed business tax of the 4th quarter 2023 and January 2024 was scheduled from February 1 to February 10 in 2024. However, due to Lunar New Year holiday, the payment period has been changed from February 15 to February 24 (automatically extended to February 26 since February 24 falls on a weekend). Taxpayers who have applied for authorization to transfer and pay taxes are advised to ensure sufficient balance in their accounts before the debit date (February 26, 2024) to avoid any payment failure.

The Bureau explained that, in addition to making tax payments at any commissioned bank of the R.O.C. government treasury (except the post office) with payment notices, taxpayers can use various electronic payment methods, including Credit Card, Financial Chip Card, Electronic Payment Account, ATM Transfer and Current (Savings) Deposit Account Transfer, to pay tax due within 3 days after the payment deadline indicated on the payment notices (i.e., by February 29, 2024). For the case that tax due is NT$30,000 or under, payment can also be made at convenience stores such as 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart.

The Bureau further encouraged taxpayers to utilize their accounts of post offices or financial institutions to pay tax due via electronic transfer (some deposit accounts could be also utilized in the following situation respectively: the deposit accounts of the responsible person for partnerships profit-seeking enterprises, and the deposit accounts of the responsible person or his/her spouse for sole proprietors). Taxpayers can apply for tax payments via electronic transfer by completing the “Authorization Agreement for Tax Payment by Transfer” with affixing the seal and sending by post or submitting in person to the National Taxation Bureaus, or making an online application via the eTax Portal, Ministry of Finance (https://www.etax.nat.gov.tw/). Tax payment via automatic debiting under accounts assures taxpayers convenient and safe.

The Bureau would like to remind the public to make timely tax payments to safeguard their rights and interests. Overdue tax payments will be made only at any commissioned bank of the R.O.C. government treasury with payment notices, and incur delinquency surcharges and daily interests.
